All for One & One for None
In collaboration with OOF Gallery, 2025
In June of this year, the Football Association (the FA) banned trans women from playing in FA-affiliated women’s football in England — even at amateur, grassroots level. The Scottish Football Association (SFA) quickly followed suit, stating that ‘only biological females’ would be allowed to play in SFA leagues from the 25/26 season onwards.
The FA has since also updated its policy for trans men, requiring them to sign a dehumanising statement which states that they are "biological female" and "have a greater risk of injury when playing against adult biological males", if they wish to continue playing in men’s leagues.
These transphobic policy updates are a direct response to the UK Supreme Court Judgement, which ruled in April of this year that 'sex' means ‘biological sex only’ for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010.
Grassroots football, especially women’s grassroots football, has long been a safe space for queer, trans and gender-non-conforming people. At its heart is community and belonging — with its inclusive nature being a lifeline of support for so many queer people. These bans go against the very ethos of grassroots football, reducing opportunities not only for trans people but cis teammates too.
Football should be for everyone, especially at the grassroots level — the FA’s own tagline incredibly being ‘Football, For All’.
In collaboration with OOF Gallery, I’m creating a memorial work which will centre and celebrate trans+ players across grassroots UK football clubs. An act of resistance and a visual and material statement to the FA/SFA, in a gesture that says we are not going anywhere.
